The Anthony H. P. Lee '79 Director of Jazz at Princeton University, Mahanthappa is an award winning alto saxophonist/composer who is widely known as one of the premier voices in jazz of the 21st century.

CERTIFICATES
Students who are passionate about engaging with jazz through a comprehensive range of contexts are encouraged to pursue the Certificate in Jazz Studies. Offerings of this program include academic course work, performing ensembles, master classes, private study, and independent projects. The Certificate in Music Performance is also available to students who want to focus on mastering jazz performance in their main instrument.
ENSEMBLES
Jazz at Princeton University hosts a variety of performing ensembles, including the Creative Large Ensemble, several instrumental small groups, and two vocal jazz groups. Each group is directed by acclaimed professionals including director Rudresh Mahanthappa, Darcy James Argue, Dr. Trineice Robinson-Martin, Jay Clayton, and Matthew Parrish.

FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Students involved in jazz performance have numerous opportunities to concertize, participate in master classes, study privately, and to pursue independent projects. They also have the opportunity to participate in academic courses from the music department curriculum that encourage the study of the historical, social, theoretical, stylistic, and creative issues that pertain to the jazz idiom.
